| Raising West Papua Independence flag |
There was no mention of the struggle for Independence in West Papua
when Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and New
Caledonia commemorated the Melanesian SpearheadGroup Silver Jubilee in
Port Vila on Monday.
Guest Speaker Prime Minister Sato Kilman told visiting dignitaries and members of the public from the Melanesian countries that MSG must maintain strong support and effective dialogue for the principles of self-determination, in particular, a closer monitoring of implementation of the Noumea Accords in the interest of the population of Kanaky/New Caledonia as well as closer dialogue with other recognized pro-independence entities both within the region and beyond.
There was no mention of West Papua even though there was small delegation of West Papuans and almost all that were present at Independence Park supported the just West Papua cause.
Today at 10am the West Papua leaders who are in Vanuatu for the MSG Silver Jubilee celebrations will ask the MSG Secretariat that they want to become full members of the MSG.
Indonesia which is their colonizers has been granted MSG observer status in 2011 after PM Kilman without the support of the majority of Council of Ministers and the people of Vanuatu endorsed the idea in Fiji. Vanuatu signed diplomatic relations with Indonesia in 1995.
Before the marking of the MSG Silver Jubilee the hosts of the Capital City of Vanuatu, Vaturisu Council of Chiefs, reminded the leaders of MSG that West Papua has a God given right to be part of the MSG.
