Enga injects K10m for education

By PHILIP KEPSON

ENGA Provincial Government will continue to give priority to education in 2013 with an allocation of more than K10 million on programs aimed at developing quality education and institutional building in the province.
The K10 million is from the province’s 2013 budget of K216, 683,800 that the provincial assembly approved last December.
The schools that will benefit from the funding include Tsak Provincial High, Wabag secondary, Surunki high, Pausa secondary, Kaipale primary, Kopen secondary, Pilikambi high, Four Square secondary, and Sopas school of nursing.
A total of K3.5m has been allocated to carry out a feasibility study and complete improvements for two new high schools and the Hela Open Technical College.
The two new high schools will be built in Wabag and Militaka in Lagaip-Porgera districts next year.
Other projects besides education that will benefit from this year’s total development budget of K175, 864,700 include the new Enga provincial hospital, Wabag-Kompiam road, Yambu-Londol road, Wapenamanda Airport fencing, Wabag town road improvement plan, Wabag town expansion program, Wabag town sewerage and Wabag town public toilet.
Governor Peter Ipatas, who described this year’s budget as "the biggest” with allocation for both recurrent and development funding by the National Government doubled compared with the previous years, said despite his Government’s announcement on shifting priority from education to health, he still considered education to be one of the top three priorities.
He said while working closely with the O’Neill-Dion Government to ensure that the free education policy achieved its goals, he would like to ensure that best learning facilities were provided in schools in the province to promote his quality education policy.
Mr Ipatas also thanked the National Government for increasing funding in its budget allocation to his province, mainly on health and education projects.
He said it was now the work of the provincial public service to ensure that the budget was implemented on time to see results in line with important national development plans and strategies.
